How to Use Voilit
A quick guide to managing your gift cards — from adding to spending.
Getting Started
Voilit is a secure place to store your gift cards so you always know what you have left. Your card numbers and PINs are encrypted — even the server can't read them without your account.
Add all your physical and digital gift cards here, track balances as you spend, and flip any card to reveal its barcode at checkout.
Adding a Card
Click '+ Add Card' in the top navigation bar.
Enter the store name (e.g. Target, Starbucks). If the store is recognized, you'll see a green checkmark — this enables a direct balance-check link on the card.
Enter the card number exactly as printed on your card. Dashes and spaces are stripped automatically.
Optionally enter a PIN if your card has one.
Enter your starting balance, or check 'I don't know the balance' to add it later.
Set an expiry date if your card has one — cards expiring soonest appear first when sorted by Expiry Date.
Click 'Save Card'. Your card will appear on your dashboard immediately.
Revealing the Barcode at Checkout
Tap or click any card on your dashboard.
The card flips to show the full barcode, card number, and PIN (if set).
Show the barcode to the cashier or scanner — works in-store and online.
The card auto-hides after 30 seconds for security. Tap again to close early.
Recording a Purchase
Click the cart icon (🛒) in the top-right corner of any card.
The Purchase tab is selected by default. Enter the amount you spent.
A live preview shows your new balance before you confirm.
Click 'Record Purchase' — your balance updates instantly.
Recording a Return
Click the cart icon (🛒) on the card you returned to.
Switch to the Return tab at the top of the modal.
Enter the refund amount. The max is capped at what you've previously spent on that card.
Click 'Record Return' — the refunded amount is added back to your balance.
Card Status Indicators
Cards change appearance automatically based on their expiry date and balance — so you can spot urgent cards at a glance without opening anything.
Expiry Soon — 8 to 30 days left
The “Expires” label turns amber and shows a day countdown, e.g. Exp. Soon · 14d · 03/27. Use the card before the window closes.
Expiry Critical — 7 days or fewer
The label turns red and counts down to the day. On the final day it reads Expires Today with a pulsing animation. Past the expiry date it reads Expired in muted red.
Zero Balance (dimmed)
When a card hits $0.00 the balance label reads Balance · Spent and the amount appears dimmed. The card stays in your wallet until you choose to delete it.
Editing or Deleting a Card
Click the pencil icon (✏️) in the top-right corner of any card to open a menu:
Edit card details — update the store name, expiry date, or correct the balance. Use the balance correction panel to fix typos or adjust after calling the store.
View history — see every transaction, balance correction, and reveal event for that card.
Buy more [Store] credit → — appears for supported stores. Opens the store's gift card page in a new tab so you can reload the card without leaving your wallet.
Delete card — removes the card from your deck. Your transaction history for that card is preserved in Activity so your spending record stays complete.
Activity
The Activity tab shows all activity across every card — including cards you've since deleted.
Use the filter tabs to focus on what you need:
Transactions — purchases, returns, and balance corrections.
Security — every time a card number was revealed, with the IP address recorded. Check this if you suspect unauthorized access.
Tips & Shortcuts
Star any card to mark it as a favorite. Favorites float to the top when sorted by 'Favorites First' (the default).
Use the search bar on the dashboard to instantly filter cards by store name — handy when your deck grows.
Change the sort order (top right of the dashboard) to view cards by expiry date, alphabetically, or by last activity.
Sort by 'Expiry Date' to see which cards are expiring soonest — the amber and red indicators tell you exactly how many days you have left.
Tap 'Reload →' under the balance on any supported card to jump straight to the store's gift card page and top up without losing your place.
Once a card shows 'Balance · Spent', it's safe to delete — tap the pencil icon and choose Delete card to keep your wallet tidy.
Cards in different currencies are supported. Select the currency when adding a card and balances will display with the correct symbol.
